We understand that the breakdown of any relationship can be a very upsetting and emotional time for all concerned, especially where there are children involved. We can help you in dealing with the issues you face, and the difficult decisions you may have to make when coping with divorce and separation.
Our Family Law team has many years' experience of dealing with all aspects of divorce and financial settlements. Our clients come from many different walks of life, some have significant private and business assets, and others have more modest means. In every case, our approach remains the same; we protect our clients' interests, and strive to achieve the best possible outcome for them and their families.
We know that one of the most important things we can do for our divorce clients is to negotiate a fair financial settlement on their behalf. This means gathering full details of the assets held by both parties and advising how best to divide them, taking into account the needs of any children involved.
We also advise on civil partnerships, pre and post nuptial agreements and financial remedies.
When a relationship ends, the legal focus is fairly and squarely on protecting the rights of the child. This includes looking after their safety and arranging for their future welfare. The law assumes that a child should have a relationship with both parents unless they are at risk of harm by doing so.
If parents cannot agree suitable residence and contact arrangements between them, under the Children Act 1989, the Court can intervene to make a decision called a Child Arrangement Order setting out who the child will live with, and the contact they will have with the other parent.
We help our clients understand the issues inherent in their case and assist them in making rational decisions about their child's future. We regularly advise on residence and contact issues, international relocation and disputes over matters such as education or religious upbringing.
